United States Championship 2-Out-of-3-Falls Match: Kalisto

(c) vs. Alberto Del Rio
The first fall goes to Kalisto as Del Rio is disqualified for using a chair.

The second fall goes to Del Rio after he pins Kalisto.
The third and final fall goes to Kalisto via pinfall after a roll-up.

RESULTS: Kalisto retains the championship.

Under a stipulation Del Rio chose himself, “Mexico’s Greatest Export” immediately exploited his overwhelming  size advantage, disrespectfully pulling at Kalisto’s mask and even going so far as to tear a piece of it right off the champion’s head. On the defensive, the wily King of Flight managed to send the aggressive Del Rio tumbling over the ringside barricade. As the masked warrior prepared to press his momentary advantage, Del Rio snatched a nearby steel chair and brutally grounded the high-flyer with it, intentionally granting the first fall to the champion via disqualification. What at first appeared to be a desperate act of frustration proved to be a deliberate, fruitful tactic on the part of the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

Moments after his savage steel chair strike, Del Rio trapped his dazed foe in the ropes and stomped him hard into the mat, scoring the match’s second fall (Del Rio’s first) and bringing him all that much closer to the title that has thrice changed hands between these heated rivals.

It was that same brutal stomp that nearly sealed Kalisto’s fate via count-out, when Del Rio drove his boots into Kalisto’s chest as the masked Superstar was draped over the ringside barricade. The luchador ultimately raced into the ring to narrowly beat the 10-count. Again, Del Rio attempted his signature stomp, but Kalisto smartly evaded the move, instead sending The Essence of Excellence face-first into the turnbuckle. Stunned, Del Rio was quickly rolled up by The King of Flight, who scored the match-ending three-count to retain the U.S. Title by winning the first and third decisions of the match.

Having turned back “Mexico’s Greatest Export,” Kalisto now carries his star-spangled prize down the final stretch of The Road to WrestleMania.  No matter what challenges arise for this indomitable Lucha Dragon, he’ll be ready.
THOUGHTS: Decent. Nothing special. If this is the best the event has to offer, it'll be disappointing, but if it's the worst, then it should be good.

Sasha Banks & Becky Lynch vs. Naomi & Tamina Snuka

RESULTS: Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch via submission.

THOUGHTS: As expected, this was a Monday Night Raw caliber match with a predictable outcome. It wasn't a bad match, but considering this is a pay-per-view, it's supposed to be more than this. That is going to be a recurring theme of my thoughts for this event, I'm sure.

The battle-worn Becky sent Naomi over the ropes and staggered Tamina, providing an opportunity for her to tag Sasha into the battle. The Boss came in fired up, countering several attacks from Naomi, and locked in the Bank Statement, only for Tamina to break  the hold. The distraction gave Naomi an opening to connect with Rear View, but she could not put Sasha away. Becky recovered from the beatdown to even the odds and focus on Naomi, allowing Sasha to counter an attack from Tamina into the Bank Statement. Simultaneously, The Irish Lass Kicker cut off Naomi and trapped her in the Dis-arm-her, leaving Tamina with no other option but to tap out to Banks’ hold.

Sasha Banks & Becky Lynch proved they could work as a cohesive unit at WWE Fastlane, but as both women target the Divas Championship, becoming friends does not seem to be a likely option.

Intercontinental Championship: Kevin Owens (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler

RESULTS: Kevin Owens retains via pinfall.
THOUGHTS: Good match. Ultimately forgettable, but these two are good in the ring and if this was the first time I saw them face off, I'd have really enjoyed it.

Big Show, Ryback and Kane talk backstage about how they're big and they'll send The Wyatt Family a message about...well...basically that they're tough guys.a hard-fought battle that caps off an extraordinary series of matches between Intercontinental Champion Kevin Owens and Dolph Ziggler at WWE Fastlane 2016, Owens emerged victorious and successfully defended his coveted title.

The Wyatt Family vs. Big Show, Ryback and Kane

RESULTS: Big Show, Kane and Ryback via pinfall.
THOUGHTS: Surprised at the outcome. The quality of the match itself? Raw.

Ryback tried to take advantage with a meathook clothesline on the worn-out Harper, only to be distracted by Bray, The Man of 1,000 Truths. WWE’s titans refused to be overwhelmed, though, as Kane took out the leader of The Wyatt Family with a vicious big boot, allowing Ryback to lift Harper up onto his shoulders for the Shell Shocked and the victory.

After seeing his eerie followers fall to Ryback, Big Show & Demon Kane, will the ominous Bray Wyatt continue his war on WWE’s titan-sized protagonists. The intimidating Rowan and The Human Wrecking Ball set the tone from the opening bell with a hard-hitting back-and-forth. WWE’s titans were impressive in the early-goings, but the tables soon turned in the favor of Wyatt’s warriors.

Divas Championship: Charlotte (c) vs. Brie Bella

RESULTS: Charlotte retains via submission.
THOUGHTS: Better than I expected.

From the outset, it became clear that Brie was trying to harness the wildly emotional events of the past few weeks — including her sister Nikki’s neck surgery and husband Daniel Bryan’s decision to retire, and  Charlotte’s mockery of both — to drive her to victory. Indeed, Bryan’s influence was noticeable from the start, as Brie, wearing the same furry kickpads worn by her husband in triumph at WrestleMania 30, entered the Quicken Loans Arena to deafening chants of “Yes!”

Once the bell rang, the two competitors took turns feeling each other out and mocking one another, first Charlotte with a condescending “Yes!” chant of her own, then Brie with an insincere “Wooooo!” and a strut straight out of the playbook of Ric Flair, who seconded his daughter, Charlotte.

As the bout unfolded, Brie incorporated many of her sister’s signature moves, including a snapback that garnered a two-count. Though the challenger had many bursts of offense, Charlotte slowed her down before the momentum became too much to reverse. Driving her shoulder into Brie’s midsection in the corner, Charlotte even played a devious psychological game.

AJ Styles vs. Chris Jericho

AJ Styles vs. Chris Jericho
RESULTS: AJ Styles via submission.
THOUGHTS: Rock solid, as expected. They have good chemistry together.

After the match, Jericho extends a hand to Styles, who shakes it in a return exchange of respect.

The Cutting Edge Peep Show with The New Day

So glad Tony Chimel did the announcement for this. New Day said booty a bunch. The League of Nations came out to do nothing. Then everyone left.

The Social Outcasts come out and do nothing, really. R-Truth is now coming out. Ugh...

R-Truth vs. Curtis Axel
RESULTS: Curtis Axel via pinfall after Goldust inadvertently caused a distraction while trying to help.
THOUGHTS: I don't care!!!!!!!! Stop wasting my time!

#1 Contender's Match Triple Threat Match: Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar vs. Dean Ambrose
RESULTS: Roman Reigns via pinfall on Dean Ambrose.
THOUGHTS: Thank GOD The Wyatt Family didn't interfere. The outcome was predictable as all hell, but the match was fun.

WWE Fastlane 2016 Match Prediction

WWE Fastlane 2016 Match Prediction: Fastlane (2016) is an upcoming professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by WWE. It will take place on February 21, 2016 at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio. It will be the second event under the Fastlane chronology.

Fastlane 2016 Match Prediction

#1 Contender's Match: Roman Reigns vs. Dean Ambrose vs. Brock Lesnar

I'm curious about the inclusion of Dean Ambrose, as I figured this would be either just Reigns against Lesnar or the third man would be Sheamus (or it would be a Fatal 4-Way that would also include Kevin Owens, stacking the odds against Reigns and making him the only babyface to root for with Brock being a tweener). Could this lead to a Brock vs Ambrose match at WrestleMania, or is Brock just going to end up with The Wyatt Family? If the latter is true, then you can expect to see them interfere and cost Lesnar the match. Really, out of everything involved in this match, the one thing I'm the most curious about is the direction WWE takes with Ambrose, cause Reigns definitely will be winning.

PREDICTION: Roman Reigns wins.

United States Championship 2-Out-of-3-Falls Match: Kalisto (c) vs. Alberto Del Rio

Reports said Del Rio was injured, so I assumed Rusev was going to take his spot at this event. Then, while Kalisto was facing Rusev on Raw, they announced that Del Rio was scheduled to fight Kalisto at the event anyway. I'm assuming his injury isn't as bad as we all expected (or WWE is really just trying to get him to work through it and don't want Rusev on the event in his stead) but while this is a bigger match, I'm not too into it. This will be the fourth or fifth time we've seen these two face off (I've lost count) and since the title has been switched multiple times during those matches, I no longer have anything to look forward to. The match should be the same as they've been having and if either of them wins, it really doesn't matter.

Wow...this match has been bumped to the Kickoff. That's terrible.

PREDICTION: Kalisto retains.

Divas Championship: Charlotte (c) vs. Brie Bella

Brie's a sacrificial lamb to feed to Charlotte and kill time, since this doesn't matter anywhere near as much as the WrestleMania match (which still doesn't matter a lot in the long run).

PREDICTION: Charlotte retains.

Sasha Banks & Becky Lynch vs. Naomi & Tamina Snuka

I figured this would be an easy call for WWE to make to fill up the card, since Fastlane is pretty much the most pointless event of the year and so much of the roster seems plagued with injuries. This is a stall to avoid having Sasha Banks and Charlotte face off until WrestleMania. Whether that will be in a singles match or a triple threat with Becky Lynch, or a four-way with those three and Paige has yet to be confirmed, but Sasha Banks will be at the forefront of this match and will get the win for her team unless Becky gets the win to avoid having Sasha win twice in a row (since she should be winning at WrestleMania).

PREDICTION: Sasha and Becky win.

The Cutting Edge Peep Show with guests The New Day

For the second year in a row, a promo is being featured on this event (this has happened three times, technically, as there were two last year). This just further proves that Fastlane is a worthless event.

PREDICTION: Next year, they do the same shit.

Intercontinental Championship: Kevin Owens (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler

These two have been wrestling quite a bit lately and if Owens was going to defend his new championship, it makes perfect sense for it to be against Ziggler. Dolph has been beating him, so when Owens retains here, it'll help balance that out and make him look strong so he can move on to AJ Styles for WrestleMania.

PREDICTION: Kevin Owens wins.

The Wyatt Family vs. Big Show, Kane and Ryback

The three members of The Wyatt Family supposedly in this match at Braun Strowman, Luke Harper and Erick Rowan with Bray Wyatt sitting out. I'm not sure how much this will play into WrestleMania plans, but this is definitely starting to make me doubt anything will happen other than Brock Lesnar facing Bray Wyatt or all four members in a handicap match. Not a fan of that, as I was hoping to see an eight-man tag, but this six-man tag kind of kills that, doesn't it?

PREDICTION: The Wyatt Family wins.

AJ Styles vs. Chris Jericho

It took a while for this to be confirmed considering we were already expecting it, didn't it? This match should be good, but I have to admit that I'd be more excited to see it if I hadn't already watched the two of them face off before.

PREDICTION: AJ Styles wins.
